How can relaxation techniques help with anxiety disorders such as PTSD or ADHD ?

There is a great deal of anecdotal evidence that relaxation techniques can be helpful for people with anxiety disorders such as PTSD and ADHD.
However, there is also some scientific evidence to support the use of relaxation for these conditions. 
For people with PTSD, relaxation can help to reduce the symptoms of anxiety and stress. It can also help to improve sleep quality and reduce nightmares. 
 
In one study, people with PTSD were randomized to receive either relaxation training or standard care. The people in the relaxation group showed significant reductions in PTSD symptoms, compared to the people in the standard care group. 
For people with ADHD, relaxation can help to improve focus and attention.

In one study, children with ADHD were randomized to receive either relaxation training or standard care. The children in the relaxation group showed significant improvements in ADHD symptoms, compared to the children in the standard care group. There are many different relaxation techniques that can be helpful for people with anxiety disorders. 
Some of the most common techniques include deep breathing, meditation, sound therapy, energy therapy (Reiki) but also deep relaxation such as hypnosis, ASMR videos with psychedelic like visuals and layered audio.
